I’m really excited about the Wild at Heart Project the DSRA is pulling together to benefit the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. We have 22 short stories that will go into making two books, one adult and one young adult. These books will be sold as ebooks and print and all proceeds will go to the refuge to help in the care and feeding of the animals they’ve rescued. I’m very proud to be working on this project and appreciate all the entries we received in response to our call for submissions. Now the work begins to prepare the book for publication. I’ve been in the publishing industry for 12 years and even done some self-publishing. This will be my first time creating a print book for self-publishing. I have much to learn, but I’m happy to do it. So far this is the process as I see it:
Brainstorm what we want in the way of stories
Call for Submissions
Editing the Edits
Editing the Edited Edits
Book Cover Design for Ebook
Book Cover Design for print book
Format content for Ebook
Format content for Print book
Work with TCWR to load books to online publishers
Work with TCWR to load books to print publishers
Review proof copy
Make changes if necessary
Market to let readers know it’s out there and for a worthy cause
Okay this might be simplifying the process, but you get the idea of what it takes to build a book even after the writing is done.
All in all it’s worth the effort. We hope we can make a difference in the lives of the recipients of our labors. We hope the project goes live in November this year!
