Mailchimp is an email marketing software many authors use. For several years now, I’ve used the online program to send out my blog posts.
I can automatically email my blog subscribers according to a schedule I select. I also can see how many readers open the email as well as click on a link within the mailing. There are many complicated settings I could activate within this robust software, but I tend to use the basic features.
After listening to authors speak about marketing trends, I decided to begin a mailing list of a different sort. This newsletter would only target readers who specifically want news about my book releases. I’ll also throw in some giveaway news to keep it exciting. Although my existing blog post mailing only goes about weekly, I’ll limit the mailings of my newsletter even more. I think once a month (or even less) might be a good mailing frequency.
The first Brinda’s Book and Contest News went out on June 4th. I included:
the info you see in the image above
- a blurb and links to all the online vendors
- the info for the Goodreads giveaway of a print version
- the info and links to join the giveaway for a basket I’m sponsoring on Night Owl Reviews
- and a special subscriber only giveaway for a book necklace
Because it’s a new list, I only have 87 subscribers. I know from experience with my blog post mailing that not everyone opens email. As a matter of fact, lots of people do not. My goal is to increase the number of subscribers who actually read the mailing PLUS click on links. Stats for the June 4th mailing are:
